Welcome to the new PAK blog...again

New blog update: We were informed recently that our provider was cancelling their blog service and we needed to find a new blog! Untimely, since we had just converted to the new blog only a few months ago. We are glad to be up and running again to all our faithful PAK members!

Here is what we have coming up...

ASTHMA MEETING Thursday, June 12, 6:30 pm at Asthma and Allergy Specialists, PA (www.asthmanc.com) at the Arboretum office, 8045 Providence Road, Suite 300, Charlotte, 28277. Hugh R. Black, II, M.D. will be going over all aspects of asthma with our members and a question and answer session at the end. RSVP to info@pakcharlotte.org.

2014 has been exciting year for the food allergy community. We are pleased to announce we are working closely with THREE amazing national organizations to help our support group be the best it can be...

AAFA-Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America has strengthened their support group leader network through conference calls and have been a great resource supplying us with materials for our asthma meeting coming up this month. www.aafa.org for more information on this great organization.

FAACT- Food Allergy & Anaphylaxis Connection Team will be holding a conference on September 20th close to home...in Atlanta! Go to http://www.foodallergyawareness.org/ for more information.

FARE- Food Allergy Research and Education continues to support our group funding the EMT anaphylaxis training that Dr. Jennifer Caceido of AAIR of Charlotte is working on with PAK co-leader, Jennifer Youse. We are gearing up for the 9th annual Walk for Food Allergy on Saturday, November 1st, 9 am at Freedom Park. Check out the Walk page at http://www.kintera.org/faf/home/default.asp?ievent=1106137 and check out the FARE website for innumerable resources at www.foodallergy.org

In other news, there is a No Nuts group formed in Tega Cay area, if you are interested in joining and for information on playgroups and get togethers closer to that area, email Jessica Sheena NNMGCharlotte@gmail.com.

As our group continues to grow and spread throughout the Charlotte area, please do not hesitate to email us at info@pakcharlotte.org if you are interested in hosting meetings/gettogethers closer to home. We will be happy to post it here and to the PAK Facebook group.

CMS School Nurse Advocacy: Wednesday, June 11 at 5pm Government Center at 600 E. Fourth Street. This is the public hearing for the proposed budget. This is a very important meeting and we ask supporters to come and wear red in support of more school nurse funding. We will have speakers. This starts at 6pm but last year the doors closed early because the room was full so we are meeting at 5pm. Children are welcome. Please wear red and bring your friends. Please email ncpash@yahoo.com for directions and parking info. If you want more information to help support this worthy cause: www.ncpash.weebly.com

N.C. House Bill 824 – Epi Pens in Schools is still alive from last session. It will be in the Senate Appropriations on Education/Higher Education Committee when the North Carolina General Assembly starts in May. We need handwritten letters to the three co-chairs of this Committee. They would not let it be heard last session. If we don't get the Bill out of Committee, it will die. Ideally, it would be great to get folks to write letters from the counties of these three Senators. So, please pass it on if you know folks who live in their counties. Also, you may want to call Senator Brock's office (919-715-0690) or email him at andrew.brock@ncleg.net. He initiated similar legislation in the Senate last year, but it did not get out of Committee either and is now dead. We want to encourage him to talk to his fellow Senators about the importance of this Bill.
